Unhappy HELP!! FTP Shut down via Checkpoint Firewall

Hello there,

I am new to this forum, and I am desperate for some advice; FTP has been refusing connections for over 48 hours now. I am fairly new to the FW security; we run Checkpoint Firewall fw1 on a Unix box. Our web and sql server reside on the DMZ and can ftp to each other without issue, but our internal and outside the FW can't. Althrough through a browser we can ftp from anywhere; I am assuming b/c that is port 80 vs port 21 for FTP.

The ONLY thing that has changed on the FW is I addedd two rules, and later that day FTP stopped working. I have since removed the rules but still no go....

Message in FW log: "SYNDefender warning: SYN - SNY-ACK- Timeout"

Please any suggestions or technical tests are greatly appreciated...

Thank you in advance

rebooted fw and ftp works now...amazing...last thing I would have thought on a Unix box, and first thing I would have done on an NT box! Learn something new everyday!

I'm not familiar with checkpoint firewall, but most of the other firewalls (and lots of other *nix software) I've seen only read their configs on startup. So, if you make changes to the config file, the changes aren't read in until you restart the service. Usually there's no need to reboot the box, only restart the service.
