How can I start a FTP Server

Hi there,
I am new to this forum. I have a question about FTP servers. I had a server setup and it was somewhat of a hassle to have running all the time. See the situation is this. I share my PC with my wife and we both have our own account setup (WINXP Home). But inorder for my server to run correctly my wife would start the computer click on my account and then wait until everything was updated and running. This became a problem, she got tired of doing all of that for me. SO my questions are. Is there a way to have the server software startup with Windows and without all of the hassle of the above? Can it start up, no matter who's account is running? Also. I do not have a static IP, so I have to update my IP everytime I reconnect to my ISP. Is there a way for these two programs to run without any interaction from a user? Anyhelp or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Server program I was running: WarFTPd
Dynamic Ip updater: DYNDNS UPDATER

Thanks again.
Bigoso

Send a message via ICQ to computer
One way to do it, would be to a) setup the programs to run as a windows service, although I don't think this is possible on XP Home in the way you want. or b) setup a shortcut to the two programs in your wife's startup folder. This way when either of you log on, it will update and start the FTP server.

Unhappy Ok, I tried that and it did not work exactly as hoped.

OK I have tried the above idea and it worked, just not all that well. When other people log on to their accounts it starts the ftp server and dns updater as needed. However the problem occurs when more than one person logs on to their account. The FTP server shuts down with an error message that port 21 is already in use. So it is creating multiple instances of the program. Each with it's on settings. So if anyone else has any ideas I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks again for all the help.

Thumbs up Don't worry about it, I got it all figured out

Ok well I have finally figured out what exactly I was wanting it to do. I have used Firedaemon Service Manager and was able to configure it exactly the way I wanted it to run. So thanks for the help and I hope at some point in time this will help someone else out.
Peace
