I'm a beginner, who needs some help.

I have recently taken over a website for a local church and the person who set up the website has sent me all the information. I can get into the ftp site through a browser and through Dreamweaver however none of the files are there. I"m not exactly sure how she created the website, but from the way I was taugh it looks nothing like it. All there is is the index page on there no other files.

I e-mailed the previous webmaster and she said she could still get into it and see what she wrote. So anything that you can tell me to help me would be much appreciated.

Depending on what the site looks like, it could just contain an index page. What's the site addy? It could have includes or links to other sites or whatnot.

Do you see a graphics folder in there? If not, you have a personal login which takes you to a user directory, not the main directory of the site. You may want to inquire about whether there's another username/password to use on the site.

There is a graphics folder. However all of the graphics in it are not theones on the site. It almost looks like when I open the files in the ftp are the test ones for first putting together the site.

I did check with her to make sure the user was the one she used to get in and out and she did say it was the one she used. However there is only one html page in the ftp server.

maybe she made a mistake and gave you the ip of the test site?

what are you using to ftp in with? (shouldnt be an issue but still, sounds weird to me )

I've used Dreamweaver, just loggin in from a internet browser and used Filezilla. And I've checked the IP and its not the test server its definatly the IP for the site. It just makes no sense to me.

I'm thinking of trying to just put a new index.html page in there and seeing if it sets the website up. Do you think that will work?

what directory are you logging into?

when you view the site in a web browser... does the URL indicate any sub directories?...

are there any images on the web site? if so....right click on one of the images and select properties... look closely at the Iimage location URL...

In filezilla you can choose to see "hidden files" but I don't think that's your problem...

Have you viewed the contents of the current index page to see it it possibly redirects to another dir. or ?

I go into just the IP address alone. There are two sub directories one web the other is graphic. And then there is the one index.html file.

She said she stored the html files in the web folder but if you click on the index file in there it only brings up a place holder web browser for the site. The hidden files won't show up for me. At least for what I've tried.

This has extremely confussed me to no end. It makes no sense that she can see them and I can't.

And I have no checked to see if the index links to somewhere but it looks like a very sloppy version of the enter page.

Are there any folders within web?... and what files?.. is there index.html and home.htm?

There is only one file within web, it is a index.html file
In the Graphics File there is about 8 jpgs and 4 gifs
And thats all the whole FTP contains.

It keeps looking as though it's a different account. The graphics folder should have roughly 50 files in it. At least that's what the root domain lists when I go to view it...
