Hi everyone, I've got a bit of a problem...
I'm trying to set up the FTP server on our Windows Server 2003... I have the basic server set up, but I'm having trouble with the user accounts... Can someone please [!] tell me how to make it so that different users only have access to certain files... Lets say I have 5 users, they each need access to their own personal file, and all need access to a "Public" file... No matter what I do, everyone seems to have access to ALL of the files! Obviously this is not good! Thanks in advance!

I don't use IIS FTP, but there is a lot of good FTP info at www.iisfaq.com

I am also working off win 2003 and IIS6 and found the IIS FTP server very difficult to use.
I wanted seperate FTP accounts for seperate users and what I had to do was create a folder called LocalUsers within the FTP root and then create further folders below this with the same name as the username in Windows Security. e.g. D:\Websites\LocalUsers\myusername This allows me to set up seperate FTP accounts for each staff member and I then have to create subdomains for each of them pointing to the users folder. This is all a lot of overhead having to create accounts for each user in Computer Management and then setting them read/write permissions on their LocalUsers folder. I am convinced there must be an easier way and have tried GuildFTP but this does not yet run as a Windows Service. My problem also is that I want to set up other FTP accounts e.g. one for each website I create on the server but which does not point to the LocalUsers folder. I am open to suggestions about better FTP Servers if anyone has any ideas?

Bulletproof FTP Server is quite good, and it runs as a service. It's what I used to use, but I'm having problems with my DSL connection and dynamic IP, where when the IP changes, Bulletproof doesn't realise that it should be listening to the new address.
It's not bad though. |
