Node failure during FTP

Hello, I am a newbie and I have a rather basic question I hope somebody can answer. What happens when one of the nodes dies during an ftp session?? Does the ftp session just hang on the other node? Is there some sort of error message that gets sent??

I am trying to incorporate some logic to handle this case and would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Karyn
