Password Prompt Will Not Display

Hello,
I am an offsite consultant for a software company. They have an FTP site for their clients, which I use to download and upload my files. The "remember password" option was selected, so the password prompt never displayed. Two weeks ago, they disabled upload permissions for that password, and now I can't get the password prompt to display so that I can enter the new password. I tried all their suggestions - I cleared my internet cache, history, files, cookies, autocomplete, etc. Still no dice. I even downloaded internet erasers, including one that clears index.dat, and still no password prompt.

I've even tried uploading using Smart FTP and the proper passwords, and get a "transfer failed" message.

Any clue what is going on?

Thanks,
Mike

What were you using to connect before?

In a web browser you could try:

ftp://YOURUSERNAME@ftp.website.com

this will ensure it asks for a password.

Make sure you turn OFF passive mode (internet explorer tools menu, advanced, turn off passive mode). And ensure that any firewall software allows ftp...

Hi, thanks very much for the answer. I tried your suggestion, and it still does not prompt for a password. I'll bet the FTP site is configured incorrectly.

You could try and force the password on it with:

ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@ftp.website.com

Worth a try perhaps?

HI, thanks for that suggestuion, also; unfortunately, it did not work.

The strange thing is that the password prompt did display when I used Netscape, but of course, can't upload with Netscape.
