PHP's ftp functions

Hi everyone,

Hoping that someone with experience with the ftp functions can help me. I'm creating a custom web based ftp solution. The problem that I run into is that I have to reconnect and login on each request to the page. I can't save the ftp connection to a session and call it on subsequent pages. The php docs say that you can't do this. I have also tried to serialize the object and call it on other pages. That doesn't work either.
Has anyone got a script or ideas on how to propagate the ftp connection from page? The reason why is that I want to be able to cd .. instead of having to pass absolute paths as a part of the url to change into directories. If I have to, I have to.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Rick
