Thanks Andreas for that clarification.
Not sure how many users would be interested in LDAP with FTP for authentication purposes. Do you have any idea how common this is in real-world scenarios? I would think (and this is based on incomplete knowledge, please turn off the flames that most people would stick with the built-in auth support.If this is a common occurrence, then we will certainly put up a piece on how to combine the two - it should be fairly interesting! |

Hi melonfire, I've suggested LDAP authenticaton (or MySQL authentication) because in some "heavyweight" deployment (thousand of users) scenarios there is a need to authenticate against preexisting directories.
So it is a real word scenario, even if not so common. I want to add that even small business should learn about the advantages of a single user directory, which can ease management and allow single sign on. Even if you are a small ISP you can reape the benefits of an LDAP directory (or a db) against which authenticate FTP - HTTP - Mail (or any application) users. |

Take a look at Filezilla, it's very nice and lacks only integrated windows auth
