Recently lost FTP capability

I use Filezilla to ftp files to my server, usually yesterday morning it quit working so I tried IE6 utility and ftp.exe. All had the same result: I cannot connect to the remote server.

Filezilla says:
Error: Disconnected from server
Error: Unable to connect!

IE6 gives me:
Windows cannot access this folder...details: The connection to the server was reset

and
FTP.exe says:

Connection closed by remote host.

It almost sounds like there is a problem with the remote server but I tried to connect to a couple of other FTP servers anonymously and I get the same result.

I had this same problem when I installed the Fatal SP2, but with that fiasco i had to reformat the hard drive and start over. I don't have SP2 installed now.

I run windows xp
IE6
filezilla

I don't know enough about this to even know where to start, and the folks on these forums have been very helpful before. Thanks in advance for all of your help

Check your firewall, if you have one.

Is FTP the only web-based access you've lost? Can you still connect to web sites and mail? Have you tried using telnet, ssh, or similar? even ping or tracert?

And are you spyware free?

I have tried every way i know how to ftp with no luck. I don't have any problem with http at all and i don't know enough about telnet or ssh to even try them. It is acting like i am behind a firewall but I am not. I ran ad-aware this morning and nortons last night I even downloaded trojanhunter this morning and it found a couple of infected files but they have been fixed. I don't think infection is the problem.

I found a utility on filezilla last night that gives a bit more information. I don't know what it means but someone out there might.
