RH 7.1, no ftp access

I have just installed RH7.1 and all was well until I tried to ftp to the server. The messages I get are "Connecting to ftp server 192.168.0.1:21" and then "Socket connected, waiting for Welcome message" and then it times out. It seems that something is not kicking in when it is suppose to. I have loaded xinetd, wu-ftpd and anonftp. When i used RH7.0 ftping worked first time. Anyone any ideas?? I have set wu-ftpd to load at startup with ntsysv.

You should be aware that FTP is disabled by default as stated in the link Michael provided. But I suppose that you have fixed that because in this case you would rather get something like:

$ ftp localhost
Connection Refused

Something else: ws_ftp is not known as the most secure FTP server. You should try ProFTPD, which has a much better reputation.
