SuSE and FTP
With the loss of RedHat, I switched one of my servers to SuSE ( I am getting to think it was a bad move).
I am familiar with vsftp in RedHat and I am trying to set it up in SuSE, but I seem to be having problems. I have installed the packet and it is showing that it is running. I can even log onto the server. But, I can't seem to find the config file to customize the settings. I have even done a search for vsftp and ftp but I only come up with an executable title ftp and nothing for vsftp. Does anyone have any ideas? |

SuSE has some configuration files in /etc/sysconfig/ that may have some settings in it. Another possibility is YaST, if it is installed go to system/edit config files. Search for a vsftpd.conf, if you haven't done a wild card search already.
I personally installed ProFTPd and it's fairly simple to install. To make things even easier, unless you already have a control panel, you can install webmin through YaST, and it will allow you to make changes to many programs, unfortunately not vsftp, which is why I use ProFTPd. If you install webmin you need to run /usr/libexec/webmin/setup.sh |

There is a Webmin vsftpd module that can be downloaded from http://www.nodomainname.de/download.php

After re-installing, I found the config file in the /ect directory. I made the necessary adjustments and now it is up.
A question on the webmin. I downloaded it, but there is not instructoins, just a bunch of cgi scripts. Should I create a webpage and insert the cgi scripts? |
