Trying to connect to my ftp server

Hi I have just finished a project that I set myself in which I purchased a desktop to act as a file server. It is working a dream and has allowed me to stream my data to my xbox and my 2 laptops that are currently in the house. I thought that it would be good if my friends and I were able to connect to this server from outside my internal network. Obviously I would need an admin account or me with rwx permission and a friend account with rx permissions.

I have installed filezilla server on the server and created the two accounts for admin and friend. I have also registered a dns which links to my external IP and I have installed the updater as it is dynamic dns.

I then forwarded ports 20 and 21 to the server which has the IP of 10.1.1.3.

The problem is that when I try and connect to the server using the following details:

host: bla.homeftp.net
username: blabla (Details set up in filezilla server)
password: ***** (Details set up in filezilla server)
Port: 21

It keeps saying that I can't connect. I have even tried putting in my current external IP as the host and it still doesnt work.

When I type that host name into a browser it directs straight to my router page.

I am using a Dlink DSL G604T and have unblocked FTP on my firewall.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't connect and if there is anything I have missed.

Thanks in advance.

Can you connect internally to the ftp server? What do you get when you try to connect from a browser to ftp://your.ip. ?
