win2k IIS ftp
hi, me again.
I got around to installing the damn iis. and set up folders for each user by creating folders named their username in the ftproot folder. (is that right?). So to ftp to the thing. They'd have to ms-dos ftp>localhost? and then everything is done by command? i dont' get that part. but so far i'm disappointed on how easy it was, and how stupid i am for not figuring it out. I can't find any tutorials on this. and microsoft website is about as helpful as iis help files... thank you. |

I think IIS's default FTP is one-way (downloads only) and I don't use it, so I don't know much about it. I use BulletProof for FTP server and WebDrive for FTP client. Hope that helps!
P.S. You probably don't want to pay for those programs, but I think they're well worth the cost; I've never seen anything as fast and simple to use as WebDrive and most FTP servers cost several hundred $ at least. |

no internet. just to set a server where pages can be viewed from the local computers. then install php/mysql. for iis... and create a folder for each user.
it's more of a testing thing. since none of the people know wtf iis is. |

Well, personally I wouldn't recommend IIS because it means you have to stay with a premium version microsoft os. Some people like it because it supports ASP, but that's the only good reason I see to use it. Also, since it's made by Microsoft as a component as your OS, it stores files in strange places (like the Windows folder) and you pretty much have to use the interface panel, which means you can't manage it remotely. Instead, I'd suggest Xitami or Apache which are both free web servers that can run on multiple platforms. As far as FTP, if you want to accept uploads, there aren't any servers that I know of that are free
