2d isometrics game engine

I'm looking for a good 2d isometrics game engine ( Preferably freeware ) but haven't been able to find one, does anyone know of any? My preferred programming language is C++, but if it comes in compiled DLL form then, of course it can be in any language. Thank you.

If you know python then have a look at Isotope. If not the Fife engine is apparently quite good.
