Best game engines(C++/windows xp)

I've been using dark gdk to make games using visual studios.
I want to make some type of adventure game most likely a shooter. And maybe even a 2d game. I just want a good solid engine.

My c++ knowledge: understand the basics & classes + of C++.

Any Recomendations?

Hmm, it's hard to recommend an engine if you don't really know what you want to do. You mentioned adventure games, shooter games and 2D games.
I think you should go with Unity. It's not C++, but C#, reasonably close And it's easy to begin with.

Thanks for your input. But the only languages I'm really opened to usin are objective c and c++. Not really tryna pick up a new language unless it's very similar to the ones I already l know.

Would you know any more good reccomended engines?

Well, C# is very similar to C++.
I would say it's a "nice" version of it

Anyway, some C++ game engines:
- Torque3D/Torque2D
- NeoAxis

I've used Torque products for years and defiantly recommend it because Torque 2D is the world's most powerful and easy-to-use 2D game engine.
