Game Designing
Welp, Remember last time ( a few days ago ) I was looking for a penguin for my game... then I seen my self in a position were I hade to go and fireup my 3d rendering program!!! ARGGG!! Ok.. You cant really create a game with out its design, Unless you dont need them... So I decided to put my game away for a minute.. and start learning how to desing.. so... here is my first 3d desing!! I mean.. this is not the place for me to post images.. but.. it goes to show.. that creating a game takes a lot of damn work hehe , what I have there is just practice.. learning blender so that I can move on creating my game.

How easy will it be to incorporate the models into your source code? (what language are you using?) does blender come with libraries for reading/parsing/rendering/whatever your model files from within your own program or will you have to write that from scratch?

Well blender was created with python.. and My game is being coded in python so ya!, but.. All I need is just 3 images.. so that I can get my game going.. going to spend a little more time with blender.. before I can continue on the game though.. I know I will need to learn this, else If I was to create another game.. then I might find my self hitting the brick wall once again

I use ZModeler, has made one car model and rally track for GTA VC (both) and some other little stuff. I also have 3ds MAX that is the best 3d modelling program available (but hard to use). Yours is pretty good!

MS Paint. That's what I made the graphics for my first game in. They rocked! lol.
I think I still have an animated gif I made by drawing all the frames paint and then another program that put them together in gif form. I still think it was pretty good lol.

heh, I also created crummy graphics in paint. I used to zoom in really close and get colour gradients going... I did pixel per pixel - damn it was tedious, but it turned out quite well I think. I never finished my little games back then.
As for now, I'd like to create a game sometime soon... but I'm a firm believer in aesthetic appeal and design and I'm something of an artist myself, so design is what I'm busy with now... especially given that I'm a novice programmer and need to learn a lot more!
Nice work on the penguin, xlordt, especially given that it's your first work... I don't dabble in 3D modelling much but I see potential there... keep us informed

I think your server is down, I cant see the penguin
I have only built a few games, all which were in flash, and one which was in a click & create program. I have no idea what your game is about, how your trying to make it, or what kind of genre it is, but! I find it much easier to first program the game, and then add the graphics after. Whenever I build a game I give each character a different shape, square, circle, diamond etc with a title above it so I know what it is. Then, for each action that the character needs I give it a different color so I can make sure that my actions are working. For making a side scrolling game, the main character needed walk, run, attack, jump up, jump down, fall, land, turn, standing, etc etc etc. Some things you might not realize you will need until you are actually building the game. I find it hard to jump from the programming to the designing. So, if you want to do the desiging first, you need to make sure that you have the game outlined in detail, it will save you loads of time.

Hehe. Reminds me of when I was a newbie in blender. Then once I mastered blender I moved to maya. And now I do high poly 3d models but I stopped 3D design to start programming not too long ago. I recommend that the people over at www.cgtalk.com help you out with your graphics. Since all those guys are experts. Always remember to post your wireframes Those are the forums I used to go to before I found DevShed.
That penguin is a nice start, though. Better than alot of people. Nice start! But focus more on modelling rather than materials at the moment.
