Need help to develop simple game

    Hello

I am new here, so sorry if im not writing in the right place or if i'm making anything wrong.

I want to make a simple 2D game, something like pacman, where i have a character, 15 pictures and i go around and destroy the pictures with my character. I'ts something really simple imo, its just to make a fun game with my family for christmas, but i have no idea where to start or which program to use.

I have some experience with programing, but more in the communication area and microcotrollers, not really in the gamming section.

Sorry for the bad english, i tried my best

Thanks in advance for all the help you can give me

I'd try a LearnToProgram tutorial out, they have a javascript one on their blog from not to long ago and it was very informative for me.

Hello FilipeAraujo, you've chosen the right stream for you, that is, Game-Development. You want to create a small arcade game like PacMan. Though its not going to be very easy but yes its not that hard to create a game. First you'll have to know a little more about the game you'll be creating, it can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac-Man
    and about Arcade-Game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcade_game

Then you'll have to learn a Programming-Language, as you said that you found JavaScript useful and its very good for creating
browser games, but its a little tough to learn but if you're able to get hold of it then its fine (most of the online games are coded in JavaScript, rich contents in HTML pages such as TextBox, Checkbox, Radiobutton etc are also derived from Javascript), but if you think its not good or not for you then I'll recommend Java, its syntax is pretty similar to JavaScript and its Cross-Platform, Object-Oriented and Interpreted. Its got good graphics support (even 3D !), its easy to learn, I'll post a link to a game tutorial in Java (see below). But there are some problems of Programming-Languages: it'll take time, you'll need a lot of practice(in general programming and problem solving) before developing games, they're bug prone and harder to learn. So if you're okay with this then go ahead, I'm sure it'll prove productive for you but if you think you don't have time or you feel that programming is hard for you then there is an alternative and that is GCS that stands for Game-Creation-Systems, there are plenty of them out there, though they don't require programming but you'll need to know basics of programming first. Some of them are:

Game Maker: Its a very good, easy to use, GCS. You can create many good games with this. Though its simple, it can be used to create many large-scale 3D games. It uses a simple and easy to learn GML(Game-Maker Language) Programming language but you need not know it (as you're creating a simple game). Its Professional Version costs $99.99 (Pro version can create 3D games) but there exists a Lite Version thats for free!, and I recommend you to use it as you'll be creating a 2D Arcade game not a 3D game. Link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Program...me-Maker.shtml . You can search for tutorials on google.

Blitz-Basic(NOT recommended): I don't know about this GCS and never used but heard that its easy to learn and powerful GCS. You'll need to learn BASIC before you use it. Link: http://blitzbasic.com/

So its up to you what to chose, I'll recommend going with Programming languages but if you've very little time then Game Maker is good.
