Talking HELP! Not really sure where to start..

Hello! I am trying to develop a game for multiple users that will eventually evolve into a commercial sim game site. I am pretty good with my HTML to make things look like I want and the graphics are not an issue. I have taken courses in structured programming and done some tutorial type stuff in perl and java. I have dreamweaver, is this a good tool to use for this type situation or should I skip that? I was thinking to use php and/or asp, some perl and mysql? I saw the resource link at the top and will go through that thoroughly. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Also I was going to initially set up house on brinkster, anyone have any experience with their paid services or would you suggest another host. I do need sql database access and would like someone I can get dedicated server space with when I'm ready. Thanks!

start simiple, create a tic-tac-toe game (or something like it that's very simple) you want to start slow and easy and see what it takes to make games, and during the one or few first games you'll learn a lot about what is required to even create one. as for the language, well one you know is good, otherwise you will be learning 2 things at once.

Unhappy hmmm this might not be the right forum for me..

I'm not trying to make a pac man or moving game like that. I am wanting to create a web based sim game. It would require an account sign up and log in, cgi scripting for form entries and to post the date from the forms and get it back. A screen where they could enter the sim animals into shows or something that would generate a list of "winners" overnight and award points accordingly. This would be the very basic structure. I have several other elements I want to incorporate as well, but they can come later. Maybe I'd just be better off to hire someone to do this... LOL!
