    Databases in game development

I was just trying to get a bit more info on how databases play a part in game development, and how they are called into a game.

Is it similar to being connect through PHP or is it something different entirely?

Just curious. Been working with the Unity3d engine a bit and thought any info on development would be useful info.

sure - of course u can use something like SQL, but would you really want that? and it depends on your needs . if its something like config files and settings, sqllite might be awesome and work

but if you are storing your textures/models in a general purpse database, probably a bad idea...probably want a custom file format optimized for your specific game needs
