DC or Austin: Architect/Engineer Needed

Full-time permanent position. The DC office is within walking distance to Farragut North and McPherson Square Metro Stations. The Austin office is near downtown on Balcones Drive.

SUMMARY:
Work with one of the nation’s premier online communications firms providing effective online strategies and solutions for public affairs campaigns. Its clients include many of the nation’s leading associations, coalitions, non-profit organizations, corporations, and foundations working on a broad range of issues. Their award-winning efforts have set the standard for innovation, creativity, and results.

Work with a team of experienced communicators and technologists who understand the strategic application of message, design, and technology to help their clients work seamlessly. Consult with client services and conceptualize requirements for the design and administration of complex applications to accommodate a variety of user needs. Additional responsibilities may include:
• Producing web applications for clients;
• Understanding the importance of efficient coding to alleviate server load for high traffic sites;
• Work with client services department to establish technical specifications for project development;
• Meetings include brainstorming, requirements discovery, scope definitions and project revisions;
• Building custom web services for improving the work flow process and improving communication between third party systems.

• Mobile & Wireless Applications
• Geographic Data & Mapping Applications
• Database Integration
• Contribution Processing
• Multimedia High Traffic Hosting
• Legislative Data Matching
• Constituent Management Systems

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related major required;
• 4+ years of experience developing Unix, database driven applications;
• Proficiency with PHP, Perl or ColdFusion are pluses;
• Experience estimating level of effort for technical work;
• Ability to write technical specifications for projects, and know how to scale up or down the time spent on this, while trading off risk;
• Candidate must be familiar with all phases of the software development lifecycle;
• Manage requirements, design, schedule, and project documentation;
• Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals and to facilitate client meetings.
