Dos program rewrite to Windows based app

Could someone give a ball park idea of what it would cost to rewrite a billing program from dos-foxpro to windows based app ? has 11 program files and 11 dbs. My 'guess' it would not take an advanced programmer very long at all to do in Access 02 or VFP or similar. Just an idea to see if I could afford or if it's worthwhile. Friend of mine and I wrote this a few years back and I would now like it in a windows app.

If from DosFoxpro to VFP, it think is the easies part. It wouldnt take that long.

How long? I think an estimate of 1 form a day.
If you count how many popups, displays, forms i guess it would take that long.

You mention 11 Program files and 11 dbs.
do you mean 11 separate executables? or 11 files for the entire program?
11 DBs? i guess that 11 dbfs files not 11 databases.

It wont cost you much if you move to MsAccess or VFP, estimate of 2-6months of contract employee.
If you decided to use a more reliable dbs and use MsSQL2000 or Sybase, license fee of about $300 to $1000 depending on no of users.

It would be cheaper (i think), if you do hire freelance programmer. Contract of lets say, $500 to $2000 for conversion of the program.

Im interested - freelance.
Currently working as a Webdeveloper. Im also handling VFP projects.

I can do this project like candy for you, fast and cheap. I specialize in custom windows software development. http://www.bountyx.net for more info about my expirience and me.

Feel free to email me (via forums)! I can give you a quote fast and I love to negotiate. Hope to hear from you.

btw I will do it in C/C++ win32 API, so it will run faster than Access and other "layered" programming devices.

I would prefer Access or VFP, but.......
it has 11 small executables and 11 dbf (tables)
this program, albeit customized primarily for my sister's use and very effective, is not very complicated.
I honestly believe an advanced programmer could do this from start to finish in less than a week. The biggest thing is converting from the old menu style to ALL FORMS in windows style. If it would be upward toward $ 1k, it would not be worthwhile to me.

Can you e-mail a zip file containing the source files that you want converted and the structure of the DBF's, though empty DBF's or some that contain representative data would be much better. This will make it much easier to give you an idea of what it will take to get converted.

DOS app to Windows

It should not cost much to migrate to a windows database like VFP or MS ACCESS as far as designing and populating the tables with your data.

what would take a long time and cost more is the program logic, the more features you have in your dos app (or want in your windows app) the more it will cost

for $250 I can do the following for you
-build the new database (I recommend MS Access) but will do Fox Pro if you request up to 20 tables
-import all your data from your dos app to the new windows database
-create a data entry form to allow you add, edit and delete records from those tables
-create 1 report for each table in your database.

best regards
John
