Freelancing Rates in the UK

Ok guys,

We need to get some freelancers in to do some linux/php/mysql stuff for us, but I have no idea whatsoever of what we should expect to pay these guys. So what dayrates and hourly rates should we expect to pay for good skills in the London area? Please reply if you pay for a freelancer, or if you freelance yourself. I need to be sure that we get good value for money at work.

thanks

i wouldn't go for the cheapest offer - experience is vital in this area. Someone with 5 years experience will more than likely have developed a code library, they may have even done a project similar to yours which they can convert. This way you will find that they are very quick at producing what you want (not always). i would ask some companies such as design a marketing where it is more likely they have outsourced the coding stuff. Ask them who they hired / how much they paid and the quality of what they produced.

It all depends on the complexity of the work as well. If you're looking for someone to give a small piece to (one or two days work) and then they come back when that's done that'll run you probablly 12-15USD/hr or less.

If you're looking for someone where you can go, I need this to do A, B, C and D, and you have two weeks to do it, you're probablly looking at the 15-20USD/hr or less.

If you really have no idea what you're doing you could be looking at 25-30USD/hr or more.

These are about the going rates here in a city with a reasonable number of consultants. Rates may adjust depending on how many people do this kind of work in the area.
