Hi there,

Im in need of a document management system. Can give more detailed specs if you are interested. Via PM or email is best.

Basically a web based system using ASP with an Access DB/maybe MSSQL down the track but originally Access.

Input from HTML form needs to populate word template, save Word file to server using unquie ID corresponding to the DB entry.

Users are then able to search the DB for the document and open the Word Doc from the browser to make the changes.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm not sure if you've looked into Perforce or Source Safe but these are two options that work well. (Perforce better than Source Safe, but Source Safe is cheaper).

Additionally there are free open source options available that will probablly work just as well if you take the time to figure them out.

Truth be told either of these options will probablly provide a better product for cheaper than anyone can custom make for you.

I Absolutely disagree, first source safe does not have a TCP/IP or web enabled, so that means u have to buy source safe plus sourceoffsite server in order to use it remotely.
and for what he is trying to accomplish, the solution can be done much cheaper then both those solutions.
If programmed by a professional, and not a 15 year old still in high school.
It amazes me that you would recommend 2 solutions that the cost will be much higher.
Anyways, what he is doing is pretty simple, save documents, retrieve them, pretty simple.

I recomended perforce and source safe because they were names I'm familiar with. A solution using CVS or would most likely work just fine and be free, as long as multiple checkout was not used heavily and the database size did not grow too big.

That being said I don't know the details of the project, and I could be dead wrong. I just wanted to make sure all avenues had been explored before entering a contract, then being unhappy with what was delivered, or being happy with it, just to find out it could have been done other ways for cheaper or more importantly quicker.

Here is a rough quote

Phil,

I would like my team to build this for you, we have made a lot of dms systems as custom solutions in the past. Based roughly on what you are asking for I could build this for about 1000.00..there are some details I would need to know that may move the price up or down, feel free to shoot me an email john@btqnet.com or gimmie a call 832.814.0969..

Thanks
John
