Future Network USA, a leading publisher of magazines such as PC Gamer, PSM, 100% Independent PlayStation 2 Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine, is seeking a Web Application Developer for their exciting new business unit. With offices in Brisbane, San Diego and New York City, Future Network USA is the fastest growing publisher on US newsstands, reaching in excess of 2.4 million enthusiast readers per month.

The Web Application Developer will be responsible for requirements analysis, design, development and testing of enterprise class, consumer facing eCommerce and web applications in addition to:

• Follow industry standard software development techniques and practices.
• Creation of appropriate design specifications utilizing industry standard tools and techniques such as UML.
• Providing time lines, estimates, and status for design and development artifacts and project milestones.
• Participation in collaborative software design and project planning sessions.
• Providing appropriate documentation both in program code and user documentation.
• Actively participate in code reviews.
• Follow industry standard testing (unit and system) practices.
• Work both independently and collaboratively with team members and demonstrate leadership, innovation, and accountability of assigned responsibilities.


Required Skills

• Java, JSP, Servlets, EJB, JMS, JDBC- 3 to 5 years
• BEA WebLogic Configuration and Administration- 2 years
• Web Services-1 to 3 years
• Design Patterns, including MVC
• Oracle PL/SQL and SQL -3 to 5 years
• PHP- 3 to 5 years
• My SQL – 3 to 5 years
• XML -3 to 5 years
• PERL -1 to 2 years
• UNIX/Solaris Scripting and Administration-2 to 4 years
• JavaScript & HTML coding ability (hand-coding, no WYSIWYG) -3+ years
• CSS-3+ years
• Content Management Systems (Vignette, Interwoven, Open Market Stellent, etc.)
• Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, and Macromedia Flash
• Granular understanding of all standard Internet technologies and development in an n-Tier environment.
• Experience with commerce applications including credit card processing, billing, and user authentication.
• Experience with User Session Management.
• Experience working on large scale, high-profile consumer websites.


The successful candidate will have:

• At least three years practical, hands-on experience with end-to end website development
• BA/BS degree
• Solid understanding of web technology solutions with content management, databases, distributed publishing, and e-commerce
• Must be comfortable in a start-up environment and be able to effectively deal with competing priorities and needs from multiple departments.
• Good project management and planning skills
• Passion for video games, music or related entertainment categories
