    <div class="search-box">

    <!-- tabs -->

    <table class="search">

    <tbody>

    <tr class="head-tab">

    <td class="field">Search</td>

    <td class="value">

    <ul class="search_tabs">

    <li class="first active">New</li><li class="last">Used</li>

    </ul>

    </td>

    </tr>

    </tbody>

    </table>

    <!-- tabs end -->

    <div class="search_tab_area" style="display: block;">

    <form action="http://www.agentauto.com/autos/search-results.html" method="post">

    <input type="hidden" value="search" name="action">

    <input type="hidden" value="listings_tab1" name="post_form_key">

    <input type="hidden" value="1" name="f[condition]" class="search_tab_hidden">

    <!-- fields block ( for search ) -->

    New and Used are only inserted as a listed information. If you want to let the user select one of them, you have to add something that make them selectable; this can for example be done by creating them as links or radio-buttons.

    I don't know what you mean by "tabs"; you have two list items (li). So in what sense can they be "selected", other than dragging the mouse over their text??

    I suggest you find a tutorial explaining how to insert radio buttons.
