file size on client???

I know there are restrictions on the client side in this regard, but thought I would ask. Can you determine a files size on the client? I purchased one of those upload to server applications. But I do not want to send large files. Their application only allows me check the side after sending the file to the server (after the fact). I need to know the size before hand. Just like validating text in a textbox before submission, I want to check the file size on the client before submission. Is there any way to do this on the client? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
