I need a snippet of code that will force a linked Word document to open up in Microsoft Word rather than in the IE 5.0 window when a user clicks on the Word document link.

I don't think that's possible with any mime type and IE 4 and above. You would have to do some server administrating to do this. You can take out the mime types supported for .doc in IIS or Apache or whatever. If that doesn't work, the end user will have to manually set his preferences and mime types. And with all the idiots out there, it's probably not a good idea. Your best bet is to live with it.
