Window Access Denied in IE 4.0

If you make a function to open windows, you need to focus on it in case it is already opened but blured. In IE 4.0, I have an Access Denied Error on the focus() but not always. Do anyone has a different solution (in javascript or html object readable by both Netscape and Explorer) ?
