    Why won't FB pick the right image when I post a link?

    Hi,

    I have a page with a like button, when I like it , the wrong image is choosen, if I post the URL in a response to someones timeline messages, it uses the wrong image.

    However, If I post the url in my own timeline the correct image shows?

    I have added at the top of the page in the head section..
    Code:
            <meta property="og:image" content="/images/covers/23COV133126437404.gif" />
            <link rel="image_src" content="/images/covers/23COV133126437404.gif" />
    but it doesn't seem to make any difference?

    Any ideas why this is happening and how I can force facebook to use the right image?

    You can view this yourself via

    Thanks,

    Og:image requires an absolute path. ( http:// ) and so on. Relative paths don't work. Also make sure the image is larger then 200x200

    Yeah, I think I've cracked it, well sort of, the validator tool still say's I need an fb:app_id, but I went round in circles trying to work out what I should use , so have given up.

    their developer page doesn't work either, as you cannot get the code for the various methods and only HTML5 displays, which I don't want.

    I seem to have got enough working for my purpose.

    Thanks,

    You shouldn't need an app id. Only the correct og ( opengraph ) tags. Is it working now? there's also the og:title and og:description. Facebook is a bitch.

    As far as I know, for a like button facebook itself gives the code and you have to add the script and it works fine!!

    I wish that was the case, but it isn't, as their developer site doesn't work and when clicking the tab to obtain the relevant code, it doesn't work and only the HTML5 option is available.

    Though having gone back to their site, this seems to have been fixed, I have it working now anyway.

    So all good :-)

    But I liked your page via clicking that button and when I open your fan page, it still shows like button to me. This shouldn't be happening.

    Sorry you've lost me, if you use the URL in the original post, it should take you to the new DJ Pursuit album.

    If you like the album, the image used (for me at least) is the DJ Pursuit album cover, is this not the case for you?

    Clarification is appreciated.

    There's a like button on your website, through that button I liked your page, the count increased by one. But when I opened your fan page, it shows me button "like this page". If I've already liked your page then this shouldn't be happening. And if this is happening then there is no point of having like button on your website.

    There are several like buttons on my site, you need to be more specific.

    Having checked, there is only one like to my profile page (that was me testing), if you want to like my artist page, please use the following link.

    http://dance-music.org/cgi-bin/dance-music-artists.pl?artist=1

    If you want to like my facebook fanpage then please do, but there is no like button my my DMO website for doing this and I do not publicise the link either.

    The fanpage used to link to my DMO artist profile page, only Facebook changed their system and do not allow external pages anymore, I don't actually use my fanpage, I just had no choice but to create it due to the facebook external page ban..

    I'm sorry if you have a problem with this, but this is down to changes made by facebook NOT me.

    I apologise on behalf of facebook for any inconvenience they may have caused you.

    having said that, I might link my profile page back to my fan page...

    I lost a lot of 'likes' when I removed it.

    Though I think you might be liking the top like button which is just my DMO site not my fanpage.

    Any help not confusing my visitors is appreciated.

    So your input is welcome.
