Authentication and IIS
Hi,
Need some clarifications about IIS and its authentication mechanism. In the Basic/Digest/Integrated Windows Authentication mode. How does the IIS authenticate the User Credentials? Is it against the Active Directory? If yes what happens in case I have IIS on a Stand alone system (not in any network and not having any Active Directory Service). Also, if the authenticationis done against Active Directory (or any directory service) can a link to online tutorila be provided (if available). Thanks, Chandra Vedantham |

Did you look in the online IIS documentation? There is extensive information describing the different IIS authentication mechanisims.

If you don't set it up as annonymous it can authenticate against an active directoy or against local machine accounts. You still have to make sure the local accounts can read and execute (depending on the code) the web pages.
