I have just started working with IIS and have a very simple question. My website will only appear on my computer if I type my computer name, or, localhost, before the website name i.e "http://localhost/mysite". Is there any way to stop this?. I would just prefer to type in "http://mysite". Also my site does not seem to be accesible from another computer, even if I type in my IP adress in the other computers URL bar.
Any future help will be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Hi,
I am not sure how is your network setup and I don know what version of IIS you are using for this website to host. Here is what you could try: To browse the site with http://mysite - 1.In IIS MMC - For that site add host header with name "mysite" 2.Configure you DNS to point mysite to your web server. 3.Refer this KB article from MS. 190008 HOW TO: Use Host Header Names to Host Multiple Sites from One IP Address http://support.microsoft.com/?id=190008 To make this site available from other computers your DNS settings should be configured meaning name resolution should be correctly configured. Once you configure DNS you should be good to browse from any other computer. HTH. Thanks much! Ganesh Anekar |

Spend some time lurking in the DNS forum.
