Exclamation Can not see localhost locally, but remotely only
Hi!

I need help!

I see my http://localhost and all other websites on various ports only remotely (inside or ourside lan), but not on the server.

I am using Windows 2003 Server. I do not know how to repair this.

Please help!

I have no idea what you mean, localhost is a dns alias for the computer you're on, so you can't view http://localhost remotely from another computer, that computer will look only to itself for localhost

Hi Doug G,

thank you for your reply. I can not view http://localhost on my server, but I can view it remotely (e.g. from another PC inside LAN or outside LAN).

It is the same with Apache or IIS6 or any other webserver or port.

I assume that something has to be wrong with the configuration of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise.

Do you have any experience what could be wrong?

Your problem must be your localhost alias. http://localhost should never go to any computer other than the computer you execute http://localhost on.

Check your hosts file and test this from many different computers

thank you for your support! I have never worked with the host file - where is it and what should be a default value or "look like", when I find it?

I am sorry for not being a DNS expert.

Try explaining the problem again in detail, including what OS you're using and how you are testing and what exactly happens when your tests fail.
