Cannot resolve http://localhost

Hi, I just installed IIS on WinXP. 127.0.0.1 works fine on my browser but when I try http://localhost nothing happens. I have a Zyxel router P-660H but I have disabled the firewall. I also have disabled Zone Alarm. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks.

It sounds like you have a problem resolving localhost in your dns resolver. Also, it seems to me there were some localhost name resolution issues with some previous service pack versions of XP, is your windows fully updated?

Check your TCP/IP settings and turn on NetBIOS.

Then you have some similar issue to the OP where your name resolution isn't resolving properly. If you're relying on windows computer names, not dns names, then you may need to allow netbios get lanman names. However, the mechanics of web servers and urls all use dns names, not lanman names. Somewhere in windows OS windows does some matching between windows names vs. dns names, allowing you to use the windows computer name, but strictly speaking that's not how the network is designed to work.
