cant figure out why iis isnt working on win 2 G

I got win 2 G Prof and I can't get IIS to work. I installed, from the cd, IIS, I checkmarked the following.

Common Files
Documentation
Internet Information Services Snap-In
World Wide Web Server

and went in and changed settings like pointing to the directory with my html/asp files on them. I added the index.html and index.asp in to the 'default documents' section and I restarted both the server and my machine, I should be good to go, right??? but when I go to http://localhost I get a page cannot be displayed error. What am I missing here? I get the error even when I'm particular like http://localhost/index.html and I still get 'page cannot be displayed'.

What's Win 2 G?

Have you checked to see if IIS is definitely started? Make sure that both IIS Admin and World Wide Web Publishing services are started.

Where do I check that at? I checked task manager under the processes tab but don't see either of those.

Its always something simple that makes you feel like an idiot. Apparently when I'm not even accessing my router but I'm still doing port forwarding I still need to have the port in the address. Thanks for the assistance..

Oh so IIS was running on a different port, so you had to access http://localhost:8080 or something?
