Arrow Directory Listing Denied

Hi All,

So, I get this error when trying to connect
to my site using IIS 6.0:

Quote:
Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

I am aware that this seems to be a 'default page' error.
I have gone to the document tab and removed all defaults
except the intended target: signin.aspx .

Is there something else that I should be doing?

Thanks in advance.

There is a setting somewhere to allow or not allow directory listing when the user navigates to a directory that doesn't contain any of the default documents you've configured. The setting is on the virtual directory page in IIS5

more info...

Hi.

I have more info.
I get the below error. Have I set up my project from the wrong
folder?

Quote:
Server cannot access application directory 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\My_Project\'. The directory does not exist or is not accessible because of security settings.

Sounds like it, IIS normally won't have any access to files in your profile directory. There should be some info in the Visual Studio documentation on how to configure web projects so IIS can use your project.

almost there.

ok, thanks.
I have moved my directory path to C:Projects/My_Site
I have a last question. I have been told to assign ASPNET
security settings to each folder in the path and was given
a warning when I tried to do this for my C: root directory.
Is this a security threat? Should I be partitioning my hard
drive and putting all my web sites on "D:", for example?

thanks again.

Only grant the ASPNET permission on folders that hold web files. Yes it's quite risky to change permissions for the entire drived, and you shouldn't. IIS will set the appropriate permissions when you create a virtual directory from the management console, but I don't know if VS does the same.

And there is no reason to partition your drive for permissions, but there may be many other valid reasons you'd want to partition.
