.exe extentions are not recognize, how do I fix it?
Hello everyone,
I just set up an IIS server on win2003, I am able to view all the html or picture files. But I cant get '.exe' file to work on the machine. in my default.htm file I have a submit button which calls the sample.exe file. <form action="Sample.exe" method="get"> .. So when i click on it, the webpage says 'The page cannot be found'. 1) This can mean that the permissions on the file is not right, but it does have the permissions. 2) When I went to the website properties to homedirectory tab, the execute permissions were set to 'script and executables' . Do you have any suggestions? I would appreciate if you can help me on this. Thanks |

Dear esenlik I have exactly the same problem ... and I have seen others! So far, I have tried these remedies to no avail: 1. Using the href=file.exe style of html used to fire off the download protocol. Now it does not. Haven't tried your method yet. 2. Downloaded and installed urlscan.exe v2.5 from Microsoft. 3. Edited the urlscan.ini file and made sure that .EXE was not denied - which is the default! 4. Restarted IIS and still have the same error 404! Intend to push on to IIS lockdown despite this glitch ... it has to be something easy ... it was working for me just 6 months ago. The only thing since then has been all of the latest patches .... that's the problem I think. But how doe we fix it??? Anyone out there ... IIS 5.0; URLscan 2.5; Windows 2k server. LUCK ... none! |

Don't you need a cgi-bin folder set up to run an executable that way?
I've never used an executable as the target of a form in any asp code and I'm not sure what syntax you may need to use.
