I don't know either. I have a w2003 R2 server, I thought maybe locating the service executable would show up a version number, but the services manager didn't show what file to check.
I suppose it's possibe the folks that are asking don't really know what they are asking, since as far as I know you won't be able to change anything about the IIS version on the server anyway.
