Unhappy IIS 6.0 error "The system cannot find the path specified."

i have IIS 6.0 running on win 2003 server. i have one web setup and running just fine. i created another web and when i attempt to browse/test it, i get the following: "The system cannot find the path specified."
i tried removing the original web i have and recreated it, got the same error message. i had to restore my metabase file to get my original web working. i checked the IIS_WPG and NETWORK SERVICE permissions in the IIS temp folder and IIS common help folder, and i have full permissions. PLEASE HELP! i've been all over google looking up a solution. whats left to try and check?

Regards,
Mike

Take a look in the event viewer. You need to identify what path can't be found before you can fix it, I imagine.

I too fell victim to this today!!

At 9am i had an email from my dedicated server isp (1and1) telling me my server ip address had been blacklisted on CBL .. sure enough it had.

I do keep an eye on this server, but perhaps not enough! I discovered that the windows IP filter had a few entires in it which i didn't setup, eg two labelled "IMCP Permit" which were opening up all ports as well as IMCP!

I then noticed that Userv was busy serving files .. on inspection i discovered that the gits had not only registered U-serv as a full version but had setup numerous accounts and one was downloading a porn dvd from d:\system volume information !!

Windows malicous tool found WINNT.hackdef or sommit. cleared it away and restarted .. it came back. the IP filter remained ok tho. Just as I was beginning the hunt for the trojans .. I get a call from one of the users saying web page not working properly.

Installed AVG fileserver edition (free 30 trial!) and it found and removed lots of trojans and viruses (oops!!)

I had exactly the same error as you. (URL address blocked: See forum rules) works but (URL address blocked: See forum rules)/index.asp didn't! even though the default page was index.asp

I backed up my IIS config and unistalled IIS .. although it kept hanging. After several attempts to remove, i tried to reinstall. Still having problems, i installed SP1 again. This seemed to help so i was able to uninstall reinstall ok.

Restoed my IIS setup and still got the same error. 3 hours later and numerous unistall / install and trying everything .. I've ended up having to manually re-enter ALL my websites and settings and app pool settings and setup.

This seems to have solved the problem ... but I'd love to know what caused it and if it was related to my virus problems. I too searched google and found nothing.

Ps. Win2300 server running web edition with SP1 and all the updates from MSupdate

pps. checked the log files and nothing was being entered when this was going on.
