IIS 6 Assist!
Hi folks!
In brief, our application server that we use to test and maintain our sample builds has ceased to function. The server is running Windows Server 2003 with IIS6 and for some reason we cannot access our admin module in any of our applications, even older ones, more than once. After the first access we only get a blank screen in IIS. Here's the kicker: http://localhost/ does the same thing. First login goes to the IIS config page, then all sequential logins are blank. We have tried restarting IIS. We have tried restarting the server. We have tried clearing the IIS cache and the online and offline IE cashe. Interestingly enough, in all cases, websites previously visited before the restarts/clearing STILL result in blank pages. Finally today I was able to find a clue. The "IIS Temporary Compressed Files" has a list of links including "$^_gzip_C^^INETPUB^WWWROOT^IISSTART.HTM". I deleted all these files and, taaadaaa, I can access the webshares again! ...once. Then the file re-appears in IIS Temporary Compressed Files and localhost times out. Any suggestions? Please note, there appears to be a MetaBase.xml file sitting on the server desktop that has a modified/creation date of May 9th (it is currently late June). It is possible the issue arose around that time and was only discovered a month later, but I cannot say for sure. I hope that clue is helpful. Cheers! |

Sounds like a problem with your website coding to me. I'd look for locked db connections, firewall blockage or some antivirus/script blocking software causing problems.
