IIS Configuration

Hello all,

I am new to hosting external web sites using IIS. I have experience in hosting intranets.

How do I make my SharePoint site (Hosted on IIS 6.0 on W2k3) visible to the internet. I currently have the site set on an IP address of All Unassigned and port 5428. The default web site is set to an IP of All Unassigned and port 80.

I can use the servers IP address of 192.168.1.10 to access the server internally but not externally. In addition I dont have a clue about assigning externally visable IP addresses to web sites either.

Please could someone give me a push in the right direction.

Many thanks
Andy

Port forwarding...

Hi Andy -

I believe the answer to your qestion is port forwarding... that is you need to forward the Sharepoint port address (5428) to the NAT address of the IIS server (192.168.1.10) on your firewall/router.

Hope this helps.

Danny

You'll need to forward port 5428 from the outside (Internet) through your router/firewall to the internal LAN address of the server. Typically you access the router configuration/admin program to do this.

In addition, if you don't have a static external IP, your site becomes a "moving target"

If you register a domain name for your site you can use a dynamicdns service like from www.zoneedit.com so external users can find your site.

Pay attention to security and patches and so on.
