IIS dosen't return page or error

I am running IIS on XP Pro and mainly use it for testing and education purposes. It was working fine until about a month ago, and I havent had time to work with it till now. When I try to load a page (any page) whit http://localhost/ I get nothing. No error, no page no nothing. The browser just thinks for every about it.

When I look in the Internet Information Services panel or the Services panel in Administration Tools, everything seems to be working fine and the way it should. But Im not a expert so I could be missing something.

I got a new cable connection about the time this problem started and didnt get my firewall up right away (shame on me) and the last logs I have are from IP address unknown to me:

I have several of these which make me think its the Code Red Worm, but from what Ive read XP isnt vulnerable to that.
02:43:57 24.147.230.124 GET /default.ida 200

Another one I have is
02:39:05 24.107.195.186 SEARCH
with a bunch of these: /
and then a bunch of these:
and then a 404

These were logged back at Sept. 6 and nothing has been logged since. Ive tried everything I can think of including uninstalling IIS and re-installing it from the CD. Nothing works. Ive turned of my security center and firewall (after disconnecting from the internet) and that doesnt change anything.

Also when I go to create a ASP.NET Web Serves in Visual Studios .NET 2003 it thinks for a long time then I get an error that says the server returned and invalided or unrecognized response.

Ive tried to give as much info as I can, Im stumped and if anyone knows what could be going on or where else I could look to figure out what the problem is, please let me know.

Thanks Kenny

Have you run a virus scan?

Yes

Yes, I just ran it again. I have McAfee virus scanner and it did not find anything on my computer.

I don't have W2003 for any specifics. I'd say check the windows event log. Can you view a page from the server itself using http://localhost?

I think there are some command-line tools to reset some iis settings, perhaps there is something helpful at www.iisfaq.com

I'm running it on Windows XP pro. And no, I can't return page from the sever itself. Dose XP have an event log? And if so, where do I find it.

I will also check iisfaq.com. Thanks for the tip.

Control panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer

If you are running antivirus script blocking software try turning it off while you are troubleshooting.

Don't add on old threads. Post your own question. And if you expect an answer you need to provide details.
