IIS migration

hello all:

I am performing an interforest domain migration, and I want my IIS server to remain unchanged. I have multiple websites, host headers, etc. setup.

Should i bk and restore on the new server?

or can i just change the domain name on the current server and iis will migrate?

ive tried to backup the metabase.xml and restore on a new server, but i get an app error saying the database is corrupt.

does anyone know how to do this, or recommendations of where to find advice?

thanks very much for any assistance.

KP

From you post I'm guessing you have IIS6, which I don't. In earlier versions there was a metabase backup menu choice, but IIS6 moved all that to xml files. The IIS versions probably need to be the same to migrate.

Perhaps some IIS specific website like www.iisfaqs.com has some useful information, I've never done such a migration myself.

Thanks for the reply- i do have IIS 6. there is also an option to backup the metabase in iis itself, but but it doesnt give you a choice where.

there is also an option to restore, from earlier bks.

this leads me to believe that this feature is only meant to restore to the same machine.

Hi ,
I think you can do that by taking the back up from IIS make sure you are giving a password and you can get the file in the path C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\MetaBack. Restore that to the second server. Then you have to manually copy the physical folders in the exact path as the first server.
