IIS removal/repair

I'm using MS vc++ 2003 with net-2 and am having problems with IIS. I have no need for it and didn't know it was on my system until this popped up.
A security check failed bacause the IIS Admin Service did not respond. To fix this, repair or remove IIS, and restart computer. I've tried everything I can find on the net in MS files on how to do either. I can not find IIS in the Services dialog. I find lots of files with IIS in their name.

I do not develop on the web or anything that would need IIS.

How can I remove/repair this?

Thanks,
RON C

Add/Remove Windows Components...

You may not be able to remove it with VS as it may be a requirement.

Iis

It doesn't show in Add/Remove - Windows .

I don't see it in Services either. I suspect that it was installed as part of Net 2 and VS 2005 express - which I uninstalled. I see many files in Windows folder and references in Registry.

Should I clean out the registry stuff? Scares me to do this.

I don't know about W2003, previous versions of windows showed the "world wide web publishing service" for IIS in the list of services. And a seperate service for the IIS Admin

I have WinXP pro, but I believe 2003 was the same in this area.

You will not find IIS in the main Add/Remove list with application programs that are installed, but that is the window you need to open from the Control Panel. In the left margin of that window you have other options and icons. Click on the one that says "Add/Remove Window Components". This will bring up the Windows Components Wizard. Find Internet Information Services (IIS) in the list and remove the check mark from the box to the left of it. Click next and you it will be removed.

Ron, I hope this helps. This is the way I would do it with Windows XP Pro. If Win 2003 does not look anything like this then hopefully someone else will soon give you the answer you are looking for.

I uploaded my instructions here.

Good Luck,

Sam,

Thanks for the link but I have looked in add/remove win components and IIS etc. are not in the list. Likewise, I've looked in the Services (my Computer/Services) and do not find IIS etc.

There are a number of files in Windows folder with IIS in their name and maybe 20 entries in the registry with IIS.

I think I have leftovers from an uninstall lingering in the registry.
