IIS SMTP keep listen on open local port

Hi,

I have IIS 5.1 on my WinXP SP1.
My Webserver have no problem, but SMTP server got problem.

If I start it, my harddisk start busying. I use "Active Ports" to check, realize that inetinfo keep listen to every port one by one.

If I stop the SMTP server, the iis will stop responding.

Any solution?

Sounds pretty strange, have you done a complete virus scan/spyware scan/rootkit scan?

I checked my firewall setting. I have blocked the Inetinfo traffic.

Even the Inetinfo has been blocking, the webserver got no problem, only smtp server keep open new port to listen udp message.

I tried to allow inetinfo traffic, it first will tried to access port 53, then out of sudden a lot of unknow ip connect to my inetinfo, using remote tcp port (their local port) of 25.

Then I blocked the tcp remote port of 25. I can still see a lot of ip keep sending SYN_SENT from their port 25.

But atleast the smtp server can be shut down gracefully.

Don't be an open relay. Review your smtp server settings. I don't know if IIS smtp supports smtp auth but if it does consider implementing smtp auth. If your server is being hijacked you'll probably end up on one or more blacklists, and many recipients will never get mail from your server.
