IIS6 - insufficient privileges?
Have recently set up Internet Printing Protocol on a Win 2K3 Printserver and it works a treat when users enter the proper website address.
Trying to be clever, I added an alias in DNS so that users can just type Printers into the address bar and it resolves to the address of the Printserver. That bit appears to work, type in printers and up pops the printer website. However, users accessing the website via this route cannot install the available printers - instead receiving an Insufficient Privileges message. Users with local admin rights can install printers but it takes significantly longer than normal. Any user accessing the website with the correct url can install printers without a problem. I'm guessing it's probably a permissions issue that's somehow linked to the DNS Alias but don't know how to troubleshoot it. Any ideas? |

Problems with IIS printer sharing
I had a Windows 2000server with IIS running
I have a printer attached via IP, and have shared it out. That was working fine Then I upgraded to Windows 2003, it stopped working. I've gone to my computer / manage / IIS / website name / printers folder and made sure that anonymous directory access was set up. When I try to connect to that printer from a remote site, via the printers web page, I get access denied. When I try to add the printer using the http://....... url method, that fails too. Any ideas?
