Hello,
I have just installed a webserver running IIS6 on the company testbed (with a view to going live later on next year) Its is a win2k (DNS/DHCP) network, while the webserver (running IIS) is Win2003.(changed from win2k IIS5) Everything works fine, except I can't access the default.html page (homepage) with the IP address. It resolves ok with the host name (http://abcde.com), but trying the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. displays a "page cant be found" error message instead. It does resolve ftp host & ip , so that I cant pinpoint where the problem's from. Can anyone assist? ![]() |

Did you add any ip blocks in the server?
Are you using the same IP that your host url resolves to? Ping from a command prompt is a quick way to get the ip. <ping abcde.com> should show the IP.

Hi doug,
The dns Server IP is 192.168.10.1. The webserver IP is 192.168.10.102 when I ping host url "abcde.com", it resolves to webserver IP (192.168.10.102) which is correct. I havent blocked any IP as this is a fresh setup (the problem does occurs from any of the clients workstations including the webserver itself) Summary: ====================================== http://abcde.com - resolves ok. ftp://abcde.com = = resolves ok. ftp://192.168.10.102 == resolves ok. http://192.168.10.102 = ="page cant be found" ====================================== I understand there might be a facility to enable ip address resolution on Win2003 (disabled by default apparently - are you aware of this? cause I've never heard such a thing) Thanks mate. ![]() |

Sorry, I don't know 2003 well.
Your problem makes no sense to me, but there must be a simple solution somehwere. ![]() |
