localhost not displaying - hanging

I am using win2k and have recently installed Mcafee Internet Security Suite 2005. I also have IIS running and wanted to view a site locally on my machine. But when I browse to the site virtual location, the blue ball in the top right hand corner goes round but nothing happens until eventually I close it. I have checked Mcafee and there is a setting called ScriptStopper, which I disabled, but still no luck. I know this used to work on my machine and can't think of anything else (other than the installation of Mcafee) which has changed since I last used IIS.

Another related issue is I cannot even open projects in visual studio. Every time I try opening a project or sln, it also just "hangs".

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Many thanks
Leila

Try turning off the McAfee software completely, then reboot. Your description indicates almost for sure you have a firewall or script blocking problem.

Take a look in the windows event logs, maybe ther is a clue there.

Angry

Thanks Doug. I found a switch in Mcafee to disable Scripts (ScriptStopper), but when I rebooted the the virus scan automatically starts again. So after I disabled it again and tried localhost, it still didn't work.

There is also a thing in the Firewall settings which allow you to specify trusted IPs. I inserted 127.0.0.1, but that still made no difference.

My last resort would be to uninstall Mcafee but I don'tr really want to do this unless I am absolutely sure that it's the virus software preventing me from seeing localhost.

Also had a look in the event viewer and saw nothing glaringly obvious.

I am desperate for an answer. Is there anything else you could suggest before I uninstall Mcafee??

I don't use McAfee myself, but Norton script blocking can sometimes cause the same symptom. You might find some service that you can stop.
