Make site visible using IP address
Hello,
Sorry for sounding ignorant here (wait... I am) I have set up a WS3K server with IIS6 and have, according to MS best practices, disabled the Default Web Site and created one of my own using a different directory. The Delimnas: 1) Currently our website is hosted elsewhere. How can I set up my website using the static IP address given by ISP? Once the site is working, I will have the domain name transferred to my server. Can I have something like stage.domain.com registered with ISP? Is that easier? 2) This should be easy... What do I have to do on my server to get the new website to show when I type "http://localhost"? TIA, Zach |

I'm not sure that i have totally got the jist of your question but I think you need to use host headers on your new Win2003 server.
If you open the IIS management console and right-click on your new site and choose Properties. In the Web Site tab and Web Site identification click on the Advanced button. Here you can add new host header values for your site so you could for example enter a host header value of 192.111.22.3 so that when that address is entered and this request is forwarded to your server IIS will redirect it to the correct site based on the host header values entered in IIS for each site. Similarly if your server has a domain name you could add subdomains here to e.g. mysubsite.mydomain.com I hope this helps, jonny
