My First Time

Dear all,
I want to learn server side languages whatever that might be but it said need to have a server in my computer so i can practice with these languages.

After read lots of articles from all of you good people I realised that I have IIS on my machine but haven't unlocked yet. I have bookmarked few articles on how to do that but before I go too far beyond my comfort zone that might damage my computer, my question is What else this IIS can do other then serve my own pages on my own computer, can other people from other place and other machine able to see my creation on my computer if I allowed them to? Sorry if it doesn't make any sense to you this is my first attempt. My first intention was to learn the server side language but the sound of IIS exited me too.

thank you for your time

If your computer is exposed to the internet and http is allowed in, then yes, you better keep everything patched and secured.

When IIS is running on your computer, open a web browser to http://localhost/iishelp and read the extensive online documentation.

Thanks

Thanks Doug,
I will just do that and I will be back to report the progress hopefully not in tears.
I already have the domain name registered but hosted with free hosting by a phone company. Beeing free it is very limited, it only serves normal static HTML pages, I can't even learn CGI, I read about it but I never put it into practice. I feel like standing on the outer edge of IT. I understand the structure of HTML and CSS fully and I can apply javaScript to the pages, even though I still don't understand the structure of Javascript but I can use it.
Currently I Have tons of questions in my mind but for now I let you go to help the others and Im going to read online docmentation you mentioned. I'll be back..........

thanks again for your response

Regards
LVikSintus
