my IIS site asking for permissions
all of a sudden my site (or root directory i guess you would say) is asking for a username and password. How do I fix that?

Check the IIS security options to make sure anonymous access is enabled. Check that the permissions for the user IUSR_computername haven't been changed.

I went to the root directory for IIS and right clicked went to properties and went to the security tab. From there I realized I have Everyone with all the allow's greyed out but it looks like they're checked. There's also a checkmark at the bottom that says 'allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object'. I clicked on the add button and added 'anonymous logon'. Shut down the server and restarted it to still get the prompt for my username and password.

Windows 2000 Pro includes IIS5.0
IIS operates under the IUSR_computername user account for anonymous web users (normally), in windows make sure that user account has permissions to the files & folders in your website. When you create a virtual directory the permissions should be set for you. There is a permissions wizard in the IIS mmc that might help. |
